Preparing for Treatment

One of the common side effects of chemotherapy is hair loss. My doctor told me that there was 100% chance I would lose my hair within 3 weeks of my first treatment. So in order to take control of the situation, I scheduled an appointment to have my hair cut very short. My hairdresser was wonderful; she encouraged me to invite some friends to make things a bit easier. It actually turned into quite a party, champagne and all!

The day before my first treatment I went for a Reiki treatment. "Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy." http://www.reiki.org/faq/whatisreiki.html

My session with the Reiki practitioner was a little more than an hour. I left the office with a profound sense of calm and relaxation. I scheduled another session for next week. And now it is time for me to take my 1st set of steroids and my sleeping pill.
