FROM RUNNER TO CANCER PATIENT AND BACK TO RUNNER AGAIN
In 2015 I ran 12 races, including 2 half-marathons and exceeded my goal of running 500 miles for the year. My goal for 2016 was to run a total of 1000 miles including my first full marathon. That all changed on December 11, 2015 when I was admitted to the ER with severe abdominal pain. Instead of being told I had appendicitis, I was told there was a possibility I had ovarian cancer. I was diagnosed with Stage 3A Ovarian Cancer on Christmas Eve 2015. After 6 cycles of Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy I was told I was in remission in May 2016. I am training to run the Chicago Marathon in October 2017.
This is the story of my diagnosis, treatment and return to running.
